The story of VAT 69 began in 1882 with William Sanderson, a Scotch whisky blender from Leith, Scotland. In a quest to create the perfect blend, Sanderson prepared 100 different casks—or "vats"—of blended whisky and invited a panel of expert tasters to judge them blind. Cask number 69 was unanimously selected as the superior blend, giving the brand its distinctive name.
