Despite his professional duty to report her location, Gabe chooses to meet Sam privately. He uses a coded message ("home sweet home") to arrange a meeting at a forest hut they frequented as children.

Sam pleads for Gabe’s help to move the body, and he eventually agrees. While transporting the van, he is struck by a drunk driver but manages to stash the vehicle at his uncle's lock-up.

Gabe (Iain De Caestecker) takes a 999 call from a distressed woman who claims to have killed her boyfriend, Haz. The situation turns personal when she calls him "Gabo," a childhood nickname, indicating she knows him.

The caller is revealed to be Samantha (Sam) Tolmie, an old friend from Gabe's childhood. Flashbacks hint at a shared, traumatic event from their youth involving a fire at a Christmas tree farm.

Back at work, Gabe's co-worker, Anthony, answers Gabe's personal phone when Sam calls. Anthony discovers the connection and blackmails Gabe, threatening to go to the police unless Gabe performs a criminal favor for him.
