Mary Shelley (1797–1851) was a trailblazing English novelist and the creator of the science fiction genre. She is most famous for her masterpiece, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus , written when she was just 18 years old. Born to intellectual radicals Mary Wollstonecraft and William Godwin, her life was marked by literary brilliance and profound personal tragedy.
