Kuroko reveals to Kagami that Aomine was the first of the Generation of Miracles to "bloom." His overwhelming talent made him so dominant that he lost his passion for the game, leading to his famous mantra: "The only one who can beat me is me" (1.2.1).

The story follows Seirin's entry into the high-stakes final league, where they must face their toughest opponent yet: the school of the ace, Daiki Aomine (1.2.1).

The Inter-High game between Seirin and Tōō starts, but Aomine is nowhere to be found, having overslept. He promises to arrive by the second half (1.2.1).

Tōō Academy is introduced, highlighting Aomine's lack of discipline. He skips practice and even knees his own teammate, Wakamatsu, in the stomach for trying to force him to train ( 1.2.3 ).
